Geneva, Paris, London, April 18, 2011 – Rio+20 is a key event to continue the discussion on how all stakeholders in the global society can make significant progress towards a world in which by 2050, 9 billion people can live well, within the limits of one planet. Under the chairmanship of Chad Holliday, BASD 2012 was created as a temporary coalition of business organizations to ensure that the voice of business is heard in Rio.
BASD 2012 is a joint initiative of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) and brings together some 15 global business organizations covering a wide range of sectors. With the coalition now in place the Steering Committee of the BASD 2012 is turning its attention to the implementation of a work program that will ensure that business is a key contributor to Rio+20′s overall success.
At the start of this next phase Chad Holliday stepped down as chairman of the coalition. The Steering Committee will announce shortly a new chairman who will lead to the development and implementation of the work plan.
